On Friday, February 1st PCCU members braved the snow and cold to venture out to the credit union to enjoy cookies and hot cocoa for a good cause. The snow was heavy at times, but members were undaunted by winter’s fury. Buoyed by benevolence and reinforced with sweet treats, PCCU members and staff donated hundreds of dollars to the Hoosier Explorers Field Trip Fund.
While a couple of dollars might not seem like a lot, a little gift in abundance can mean a great deal for the next generation of Hoosiers. With the magic of your generosity, the Hoosier Explorers Field Trip Fund transforms that couple of bucks into a bus ride for a local student. A ride that helps them travel through time to an Indiana that moved at the speed of a canal boat or steam locomotive in Metamora, to see how a frontier town lived and worked at Connor Prairie, or witness how Hoosiers stood up against injustice at the Levi and Catherine Coffin House.
It might also mean a trip to Frontier Field to see math and statistics come alive on the baseball diamond, or a trip closer to home at the Wayne County Museum. These kind of experiences can help make history come alive in a way that even the best video or computer simulation cannot. By donating to the Field Trip Fund members and staff have shown the power of PCCU’s “People Helping People” philosophy.
Our next fundraiser will be Friday, May 3rd. All PCCU offices will host an ice cream social from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. You’ll enjoy some yummy ice cream and an array of tasty toppings and kick off summer the right way! A $2 free-will donation is appreciated, but not required. All proceeds will benefit area fourth grade students and pay transportation costs for field trips within Indiana. You may donate to the general fund or direct your gift to a particular school.
